93! Woo hoo!

And so ends the series of 'for gaming' guys! I've got plenty now (and a couple females, which I'd had painted before so didn't need to work on now). Next I'll be back to the vestal and the lizard men.

But in the mean time, here's the finished Mike. The gun kinda sucks, but given the purpose of this guy I'm not going to fuss with it. I think I might need to do a bit of touch up on the front edge of the coat, though.

Plugging along

Made some progress on Mike today. I'm in a weird position where I like this figure, but painting him is not exciting me terribly. Maybe it's because of the time constraint. In any case, I finished his shirt and pants, and started on the coat. I may need to go back and up the highlights on his shirt a bit, they got darker as they dried.Looks like I have a bit of touch up to do on his left hand, too. Once the coat is done the rest should go pretty quick, so I'm hopeful he'll be done by Saturday.

And this is the base he'll be going on. It's going to be a sandy/desert base; I'm probably going to add a couple grass tufts.Looks like I missed a spot on one of the rocks, too.

Mike

Worked on Mike the Biker today. He's the last of the guys I'm doing for my game. He may or may not get finished on time. I've got enough done that I don't technically need this one.

I tried Army Painter spray primer on this one. I was sure it would have Fuzzy Primer Syndrome, but it's really not that bad. Maybe not perfectly smooth, but I've got worse.

92!

Finished Bill today. Yay! I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. I was watching The Professional while finishing him off this afternoon, so he got Leon sunglasses as a tribute.

91!

Finished up Slim. Not great, but he'll do the job.

That's four total for my game next week. I've got two more I'd like to finish, but we'll see if I manage it. First is the librarian, who I'm going to call Bill.Finished his pants today, and with any luck I can make a lot of progress on him tomorrow.

And, I started this guy today. This is Mike Noe, Biker Boss, from Reaper.

Slim

I focused on Slim today, but didn't quite manage to finish him. I should be able to finish him next time. There are highlights on his shirt, I swear! They just don't show up in the picture very well. He's kinda rough, but for gaming he'll do.

Trucking along

Faces and hair on my guys today. I gave them pretty much the same hair - light brown, with gray streaks. I want them to be going gray. Happy bit: between the glasses and the eye path, there was only one eye between them!

I haven't decided what to do with the glasses yet. Maybe I'll try SENMM; I've never done that.

Two more modern guys

Well, modern-ish, anyway.More guys for my upcoming game, so I'm going to try to get them done fast.

The first is Slim, another Reaper Bones.I think he's going to end up getting lots of shades of brown.

And this is a mini from the Savage Worlds Hell On Earth Kickstarter. I think he's 'Male Librarian 1' or something like that. I'll have to give him a name.I think he's going to get a blue shirt. Haven't decided on the coat yet.

90!

Alrighty then. Donnie's done. I tried giving him a plaid shirt. I'm not sure if I'm happy with the results or not. The amount of glazing involved kind of ate my shadows and highlights, so I tried putting them back in, which was less than completely successful. Looks like I forgot the highlights I meant to put on his buttons, too. Well, that's easily fixable.I initially tried putting him in sneakers, but I couldn't get it to come out quite the way I wanted. Also, the light color was drawing the eye away from where I wanted it to be. So he gets brown boots instead.

89!

Finished Rex. Have to touch up the back of his jeans; I got some rub-off somewhere along the line. I tried the 'worn leather' technique from Laszlo's Hot Lead - Difficult Colors DVD. I'm not sure it is represented well in the pictures, but I'm pretty happy with the results. Some of the blends are kind of rough, but this is a Bones guy, so I'm not sure I care.

I also did a little work on Donnie, shading his pants. I may need to darken it up a bit.

Finishing the Jeans

I got a late start today, so I didn't get much done. I did futz with Donnie's hair some; I think it's better now but I'll get pictures tomorrow. I also worked on Rex's jeans, and I think they're pretty close to done. I might smooth one of the highlights in back, but that's about it.

Now I've got to decide on colors for the rest of his clothes. The leather jacket will probably be black, either black shiny leather or something a bit more worn and faded. Considering one of the arms has apparently been ripped off, maybe worn and faded is the way to go. Boot's will probably be black. Not sure about the t-shirt. White would be the 'traditional' look, but I'm not sure that's what I want to go with.

Rex and Donnie get pants!

And hair. The hair is pretty much done for both of them, the pants just have base coats. Rex is getting new, non-faded jeans. Donnie has khakis. As for the hair...I'm still working on the PaintMinion hair technique. I'm not sure it's working out for me. Too much highlight, not enough highlight, particularly with Donnie. I went back and forth with it a good half dozen times before deciding to come back to it later. I put the brightest highlight in, it looks like he's got a halo. I glaze it down, and then the bright highlight gets lost. Bah.

Rex and Donnie

So, back to modern figures for gaming. This is Rex, who I started previously. He's one of the new Reaper Bones.

And this is Donnie from Hasslefree. Again with the tiny, tiny, eyes.

Their skin and eyes are done, though I think I need to glaze the highlights a bit, particularly on Donnie. Tomorrow they'll get hair and some clothes.

88!

Finished up the skeletons - the metal bits, with a bit of rust slapped on and some highlights. They're good enough for table top. These are the first of the Bones I really didn't like. You can see how the spears are bent. Some of the bows are a bit deformed as well, and a couple of the skeletons are leaning on their bases. I did give them the boiling treatment, which helped but didn't totally solve the problems. Even so, they're done, and they'll be fine for table top!

Airbrush Interlude - not quite finished

So, here's what the skeletons looked like with just the wash.

And then, a bunch of other work. Dry brushed over the skeletons themselves with the bone color and then a lighter beige. Painted the wood and leather bits and gave them a lighter wash. Same with the shield faces. And, did the bases. This is about as quick and dirty as it gets. All I've got left is the metal bits - the swords, spear heads, edges of the shields, and so on. Hopefully I can get all that finished tomorrow.

76! And airbrushed stuff

So, finished up Finn today. Finn, as it turns out, is a Packers fan.I glazed his hair to smooth the highlights a bit, did the shading and highlights on the shoes, gun, and sweatshirt, and freehanded the Green Bay Packers logo on the hoodie. I'm quite pleased with how he turned out. Looks like there may be a chip on his shoe that needs fixed; otherwise, he's good to go.

As usual, I practiced the freehand on paper first:

Lastly, I started a batch of Bones skeletons, which is my airbrush project for the week. This is just the base coat on the skeletal parts. There was some over spray on to other parts, but that's fine.  I've also put a brown wash over them, but that's still wet right now. I'll get pictures of that stage before I continue with the tomorrow.
