Freya: Highlighting Cloak

I worked on smoothing the shadows on the cloak and then highlighted. The shadows are still not that great, but the highlights are decent.

I'm going to call this done for now and move on. I may come back and work on the shadows more later, but for the moment I'm kinda sick of this piece. So, I'm going to move on.

Freya: Shading Cloak

I put some shading on her cloak. It's quite rough and needs a lot of smoothing. That's a bit disappointing as I layered in a couple middle shades of green. But, so be it.

Freya's Cloak

Tinted it to the bright green I wanted. Here's a before and after, to compare. Since I've gotten this this far, I may finish shading and highlighting it so I can get some sealer on it and put it away someplace safe until the rest of her is ready for it.

Freya: Cloak

I put a base coat on her cloak. The red bit at the top is some of her hair. I'd picked a bright green for the base coat, but it covered quite poorly. So, I found a similarly toned but less saturated green to use as a base coat, and then I'll put the brighter green over top of that, sort of like a glaze. The final color is shown in that patch on the left. They look more distinct in person.

Freya: Hair Highlights

Got in a little work on Freya today. I finished highlighting her hair. Definitely brightened it up.

Now, her hair is far from perfect. I could muck with it quite a bit more, to smooth out those highlights and maybe deepen the shadows a bit. I may do some of that. But I may also move on.

Paint Day Interlude: Cleric

Today was Paint Day. I went, but did not take Freya. She's resin, and delicate, and I didn't want to risk breaking her. So I took this Bones dude instead. He's going to be one of the batch that goes to friends to replace their gaming figures.

His face and hair are done and the armor has been base coated.

Freya: More Hair

Today I glazed some purple into the shadows in her hair and did the first round of highlights.

Why purple in the shadows? Well, it makes the red look much more vibrant and ups the apparent contrast without having to put in super dark shadows. In the past I've generally used bluer purples than this one. This time I used Reaper's Carnival Purple, which is a special color from a ReaperCon a few years ago. It's a very violet purple, so I'm not sure it will go as nicely. We'll see.

I still need to do a couple more rounds of highlights on her hair, too.

Freya: Shading Hair

Didn't accomplish a ton today, just put some shadows in her hair. Hopefully will get it done next time. Her hair has a lot more texture than I'm used to, so I'm having to adjust my usual technique to that. We will see how that goes. At the moment it means I put in more shadow than I might normally, which means it might be too much.

Freya: Skin, Face, Hair

I finished her skin (minus maybe some touch up and smoothing later if I decide it needs it), detailed her face (eyes and lips) and put a base coat on her hair. Yup. She really wanted to be a red head. I may reshape the eyebrows a bit, too. They were uncooperative. Next will be finished her hair, then probably the little straps and stuff that sit right against her skin.

Freya: Shading Skin

Yes, I know, it's been a really long time. But I've picked up work on Freya again, starting with shading her skin. I still need to smooth the shading up some. Also, I am purposely keeping the darkest shadows very limited. Some people say female figures shouldn't have as high contrast in the skin as male- it's better to give them a softer look. So I'm going to give that a try, since I've been painting my male and female skin basically the same. I figure this will be a good sculpt for it since she's not particularly muscular.
