Set: Finished Leg

Got highlights on Set's other leg. I'm pretty happy with it. I think I'm going to leave his left arm, but I might tweak the right arm a bit.

After I finished the leg, I had more time but wanted to do something a little easier than careful blending, so I base coated a couple of the sections of wraps. Joke's on me, that was not easier. Particularly the ones around his ankle are pretty fiddly and I had to do a lot of cleanup as I went. Still, it's nice to have more of the white gone.

Next will be the chest and upper arm section.

Set: More Legs

I've done the shading on Set's other leg. Next will be highlights on there. It's taken a few days to get back to this because I was working on another project over the weekend; I don't have good pictures for it because at the moment it's just a big pile of pink foam. As soon as it looks like something, I'll get some pictures.

In the meantime, Set:

Set: Legs

I got highlights on Set's left leg, decided I was happy enough with it, and re-based the other leg. I think the arms are pretty OK, so I might leave them as is, or I might tweak them a bit, but at the moment I don't think I need to redo them completely.

Set: Remember him?

Now that I've finished the mermaid, I'm resurrecting a project I haven't touched in ages: Set. I took a look at what I had so far, and I was not very happy with his skin. I think the problem is that there was too much difference between some of the layers, and I'd made the highlight areas a little too tight. So, I decided to paint over the left leg and try again there to see if I could get something I liked better. I selected a first shadow color that was about half way between the lighter yellow and the darker brown, and endeavored to do it again with broader highlights and better transitions. I'm planning to get the leg finished, smoothed and everything, and decide if I like it or not before going on to the rest of him.

I've got the base coat and shading done on the left leg. Next time will be the rest of the highlight, and then I'll see how it looks and decide what to do from there.

Finished up the mermaid today. Yay!

She is the last of them. Just for grins, here's a picture of the whole bunch.

Last Mermaid: Fins, Tail

Finished the purple parts of the fins, and started shading on her tail. With any luck I will be able to finish off her tail next time.

Last Mermaid: Tail, hair

So I worked on her a couple days ago, couldn't decide what to do with her hair, so I punted and painted the shells. Today I finished the tail base colors, and once I did that I decided to go with purple for the hair. I'm a little undecided on what I think.

Last Mermaid: Skin, Face

I've finished off the skin and face on the mermaid. Now I have some decisions to make about what to do with her hair and tail. I want to get some purple in on the tail. For many of the others, I've given them different colored fins. I don't think I want to do that here. I might to stripes and a fade on the fins like I did on the last mermaid. As for the hair...no idea.

Last mermaid: Tail, skin

Tonight I solidified the base coat on the mermaid's tail, and started the shading on her skin.

Last Mermaid. Zora.

It's been a while. I was working on a commission that I couldn't share, and also painting a building that I haven't gotten good pictures of. I'll try to get some and post it.

I have a few projects I am to get done by the end of the year. One is the last mermaid, one is finishing off the Set figure I last worked on a year ago. I took a look at it and was really not thrilled with how the skin was going, so I need to think a bit on how to try to save it.

In the meantime, here's the start of the mermaid:

The other thing I worked on a bit was Zora...it's been a number of months since I started her. She's not something I'm trying to finish by the end of the year, so I will be working on her occasionally at best. I wish I knew why so many figures are sculpted looking down.
