Finished Set tonight. Of the 5 projects I'm aiming to get done by the end of the year, this is number 4.
There are some creative choices I made when I started this piece that I would do differently now, and some parts where the execution is not great. But overall, I'm happy with it.
I should be able to finish project #5 over the next couple of days. Not sure what I'm going to work on after that. Maybe take a break for a couple days!
I painted Set's sword, got him attached to his base, and got the sword attached to him. Also started on his weapon. The scythe has a lot going on, but I'm hoping I can wrap it up quick.
I finished the gold collar, repainted and put on the dagger, and painted and attached the red strip of cloth by his head. I'm also started painting the sword, but want to get more of the painting done on the sword before I attach it. I think the order is going to be paint the sword, attach the figure to the base, then attach the sword to the figure.
I finished the leopard skin, spots and all. I might tweak it a bit, but I think it's actually decent. Next step: the collar.
Base coat on the leopard fur. Need to do spots, shading and highlighting, and decide what to do with the under parts that are visible. Going to try to finish it tomorrow, but that's a lot of stuff.
As expected, I did the amulet on Set's belt and finished the scorpion tail tonight. Next up: the fur.
I did shading and highlighting on the rest of the linen wraps today. Not terrible, he looks a bit more finished now. Next will be some gap filling on the fur where I glued pieces on, and probably the scorpion tail and the amulet on his belt.
Today I primed some of the pieces that still need to be attached, put some shading and highlights on some of the linen wraps, and then base coated the underside of the two pieces of fur that needed to be attached and attached them. I tried attaching part of a dagger, too, but it didn't work out and I just made a mess of it. I'll need to clean that up and try again after the fur is painted.
Progress tonight is subtle, but good. I did the belt, cleaned up the linens around his waist, and did the coins. Next time I can shade and highlight the linens, and then I'll be able to glue one of the missing pieces in. Maybe two, but I think I'm going to paint the second one before attaching it.
I finished the loincloth and sash on him today. Next I'll do the belt and linens in that area, and then I can attach some of the missing pieces.
I have a date I need to finish this piece by. I feel like I'm making decent progress, but it's going to be awfully tight.
I got a base coat on the rest of the linen wraps, and shaded the loincloth. The shading is pretty subtle - that's what happens with black on slightly lighter black.
It's amazing how much difference filling in other areas on the figure can make. Here I base coated his loincloth and headpiece. I also got the metallic base coat on the gold areas, at least some of them.
He's going to look weird for a few days. Today I filled a couple of holes in the resin that I'd missed before, did the shading and highlights on his other hand (still a separate piece, not pictures), spent some time figuring out what order the remaining areas need to be painted in based on the locations of pieces that still need to be attached, and then did a base coat of the scorpion tail and an undercoat of some of the pieces that will be gold.
The stuff on his arms and legs I can do without interfering with anything else, but it's the stuff around his midsection that I need to work on in order to be able to put the pieces that still need to be attached in place. So, I'm probably going to swap between those to sections. I might go back and redo the wraps with a lighter, cooler base tone.
I did Set's head tonight, including eyes and teeth. I have a long way to go, but I'm feeling pretty good about it today. Finishing his head has kind of brought the painted parts together.
Did the torso/chest part of Set today. I'm not loving it, but I'm not sure right now what to do with it.
