Bones Interlude: Dain, Face and Hair

The weather is supposed to be warm and clear for a couple days next week. It's likely to be my last change to use spray-on sealer this year. So, I'm going to try to finish one more Bones guy by then.

Here he is: Dain Deepaxe. Got a long way to go in a couple days.

Finished Dionne today. Pretty happy with her...also just realized I forgot to give her eyebrows. Gonna have to fix that.

Dionne: Totally Not A Vampire

Just got back from Reaper ArtistCon. I taught a couple of classes there and got some painting done as well. Some of that I did for Reaper and don't have pictures of, but I also had time to get back to Dionne here.

This is what I did while at ArtistCon. Finished her face and hair, base coated the rest of her, and started highlights on the coat. I'm going to try to make the coat look like cloth, and her body suit look like vinyl. So, as cloth, the coat is getting soft, wide highlights. The body suit will get narrower highlights that will go brighter.

All that being said, the highlights on the coat do need to be brighter. So, here's what I did today. That's finishing the highlights on the coat and starting them on the body suit. I'm pretty happy with the coat. The highlights on the body suit I need to blend and narrow, and then go back with a lighter color.

Finished the cleric. Wow, my count for this year is really pathetic. I'll get a few more done before January.

Cleric: Cloak, Tabard

This is actually a couple days of work, but some of it I did late enough at night I couldn't get pictures that day. Here, I've finished his cloak and tabard with all the shading and highlights. There's not actually a whole lot left for this guy. Couple days more and he'll be done. I'm heading off to Reaper's ArtistCon next week, so I probably won't get back to Freya until after that.

Cleric: Shading the Cloak

Got in a little work on this guy today. I was shading the cloak. It still needs a bit of work.

Cleric: Armor, Cloak

So, I've been having serious motivational issues for the past week or two. In an effort to solve them, I went to one of my usual go-to techniques: get something small and easy that I can paint through fast, and just get it done. I'll usually pick something in a different genre than I've been doing, too. For instance, this is an excellent time to do a mousling.

This time, I went to a modern figure so I could stick something on that brick base I did a while ago. I picked out Dionne from Hasslefree, who is totally not a vampire pulled from a mediocre vampire vs. werewolves chain of movies:

I haven't decided if I'm going to dress her all in black.

But then, today I decided I felt more like finishing projects than starting new ones, so I went back to this cleric from last month's paint day. I didn't go to Paint Day today, but perhaps with working on this figure I was there in spirit. I shaded and highlighted his armor and then put a base coat on the cloak.

Freya: Skirt, boots

Finished the base coat on her skirt and bodice. It's nice and opaque now. Also started shading the brown. Ran into some trouble there because the dark brown I chose is kinda glossy, so it looks a little weird. That'll get worked out eventually.

Freya: Skirt, Bodice

I wanted to work on her some today, but didn't want to do anything complicated. So I finished the base coat on her boots and gloves to get it good and solid, and then started the base coat on her skirt and bodice. Once again, I managed to choose a color that doesn't cover that well. I think it'll need one or two more coats to be a good opaque base.

As far as the color goes, I think it's fighting with the red hair a bit, but I'm hopeful that once the green cloak is put in place it'll help make everything play together.

Freya: Boots, Gloves, Straps

Yes, I'm back, and back to work on Freya here. I've started the 'leather bits' - some of the straps and such, along with her boots and gloves. The boots and gloves need another coat, I think, to get a good solid base coat.

I might do the shading and highlighting on the belts and strappy bits on her torso, then switch to working on the skirt and bodice before I go back to the boots. The purpose of doing that would be to get the rest of the main colors on and make sure I like them.
