Shub: Maw. Medusa: Skin

Here's Shub, with his maw and tongue finished. That's it for the paint on him, I think.

And so, moving on to his base. I've glued the plastic bit to the base and added some putty and stone to build up the area that will be swampy.

I started on Medusa today as well. Here's the base coat for her skin. Going with Reaper's Olive Skin for the base.

Shub: Tentacles

Here he is with the tentacles glued in place and highlighted.

Now I just need to finish off the inside of the mouth and his tongue, which is still a separate piece.

Shub: Eyes, Tentacles

Finished the eyes, mouths, and such on the other side of his body. Then I moved on to the nest of tentacles.

I airbrushed the base coat on the tentacles. I made myself a little rig to hang them up on as I worked:

It was screwing a little hook into the tab of the tentacle, and hanging them from a little loop that was stuck in some foam insulation. I didn't air brush them there, I pulled each one down to work on it, but it gave me a place out of the way to hang them as they dried and I moved on to the next one.

Here is is with the base coated tentacles dry fit into the body.

I think I will need to glue them in before finishing them, otherwise it'll be too hard to guess where the highlights need to go. So, next time I'll be gluing them in. There are many and they intertwine, so that will be a  bit of a project.

I'm not entirely thrilled with my color choices at this point. I feel like I'd have liked to see a little more color contrast going on. It's like a big blob of purple and black. With the tentacles in place, the reds and greens of the details on the body get kinda drowned out by the sheer volume of everything else. Maybe I'll like it more when I've got shading and highlights on the tentacles. Either way, I'm unlikely to go back and change it at this point.

Shub: Eyes

I worked on the details on Shub's body today - finished the mouths and started on the eyes. As expected, I didn't finish the eyes, but I made some good progress. I should be able to finish them and the spikes next time, and then I think the main body will be done other than the maw, which I plan to do after the tentacles.

I also put some gloss on the finished eyes, the mouths, and the wounds, for that extra ick factor. I tried making the eyes glow, but didn't like the way it turned out. The glow effect eliminated the edge around the eyeballs, and made them not stand out very well.

Shub

I've finished highlighting the body on Shubnigurath, and started on the assorted little mouths on there. Next I'll do the eyes, then the spikes. I'd like to be done with all that by the end of the weekend, but more likely I'll be part way through the eyes.

Shub, Jeannie, Medusa

I continued on with highlighting Shub's body. Not a ton farther, but some. I'm going to have to keep it moving along to finish on time.

Remember Jeannie? I started her a few months ago as OSL practice, then dropped her for a long time. I'm going to try to get her finished up. There's some stuff I could go back and fix with the OSL, but I probably won't bother. I did her eyes, lips, and highlights on the hair. Next I'll probably finish up the gold and her boots.

And, one of the next projects: Medusa, from Arena Rex. She's been cleaned up and primed. She has a shield and spear that will be attached later. This will be an excellent opportunity to practice transparent cloth.

Gold, Shub

Remember the piles of gold experiments? I went back to the last round and painted them.

Not bad. They definitely get the idea across. I have one more thing to try, but I think these - particularly the ones with lots of glitter mixed in with white glue - will be adequate.

I also got back to Shub today. I've started putting highlights on the main body, starting with his hindquarters.
