Lem: Coat, Leather

Continued on with Lem. He's far enough along that I'll probably finish him before going back to anything else.

I put shading and highlighting on the red coat and base coated the leather bits. I am simplifying his color scheme from the artwork.

Lem: Pants, Jacket

After a water cup spillage crisis tonight, I still managed to get some painting in. I went back to Lem and finished off his pants - shading, highlighting, and stripes. Note the stripes are also highlighted. Then I started base coating his jacket. I still need to put another coat or two on the jacket. I'm having trouble with paint beading on him...enough that I'm starting to wonder if I actually washed him before putting him in the 'ready to paint' bin.

Skarre: Jacket

Put shading on Skarre's coat today. I'm still not loving that color, but I'm going to go with it. I think the shading helped some. I'm not sure the shadows are deep enough, but I'm going to reserve judgement until I've got some highlights on there. Sometimes you have to have both ends of the contrast in place before it'll really pop.

Skarre: Hair, Jacket

Finished Skarre's hair...I'm not sure if it's any good or not, but I'm moving on. Then started on her jacket and bodice. I'm not sure about that particular shade of red for the jacket. It plays nice with the shading on her skin, but it's a little more on the pink side than I like for her. I dunno, I may go with it anyway.

Lem: Hair, Shirt, Pants

I wanted to go easy tonight, so I focused on Lem. Got his hair and shirt done and started on his pants. In the reference art, his pants have blue stripes on them, which I probably will do.

Skarre: Hair

I put the top layer of highlight on Skarre's hair, then glazed with the base color to smooth blends and bring more of that dark, dark brown back. Then I worked on putting a bit of those brighter highlights back again. The top layer is all but hidden between the glazing and the 3rd highlight, so I need to go back to that again.

Hair is like that. Once you get the basics in, it's a lot of futzing. But I'm hoping to call it good enough and be ready to move on after the next time I work on her.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do after her hair. Probably should do the horns, but I don't know what color I want for them yet. I may go to that inner metal necklace/collar thing she's got. That, at least, I know more of less what I want to do with.

Lem, Lady: Skin

I was going to work on Skarre's hair today, but she sustained some last minute kitten damage and I had to glue one of her horns back on. So, I put her up for the glue to set, and went to work on the skin and faces of Lem and the Lady.

Lady first: she has the tiniest eyes I have seen on a figure at this scale in a long time, possibly ever. I don't think I have any hope of actually getting eyeballs in there; her left eye is particularly difficult as it's just a slit with a lid. So, I'm going to use something an illustrator told me once: in illustration, they don't fill in eye details at this scale. So for her, I'm not going to. Her face will look a little odd, but since her primary purpose is practicing fancy cloth texture, I don't care. At least, I don't care enough to spend a lot of time futzing with her eyes. i probably will clean up a bit around her lips, though. Next for her will be her hair and maybe the top part of her headdress. After that I'll get into the dress itself.

Also, Lem. In contrast to the Lady, Lem has HUGE eyes. Thanks to Derek Schubert, who sculpted this guy. Plenty of space to put in an iris, pupil, and the catchlight. I didn't get my catchlights even, which makes him look like he's looking in two different directions. I'm not going to fix it for a gaming piece. Next for him will also be his hair.
