Got back to Takhi today, as you can see. Did something unusual for me. Typically at this point I would have put highlights over all his skin and then finished the details on his face after that. Today, I wanted to give him some more oomph, so I finished off his whole face, highlights and details. I'll go back and highlight the rest of him next time.
I'm not thrilled with his eyes. I find when you put colors in the eyes the color you choose is very important. Too dark, too light, not saturated enough, and it won't show up. I tried a few different colors - red, orange, yellow - and ended up back at red, but the eyes still aren't showing up as much as I'd like. I might revisit them, or once I get his fur painted it might change the look.

Trista: Armor, Sash
Back to Trista for today. I didn't have a lot of time, but I got shading and highlighting on her armor and a base coat on her sash. I'm liking the red.

Takhi: Smoothing Done
Whew. Glad that's done, though I still need to highlight his skin. There may be a few spots I touch up some more, but I'm pretty happy with the shadows. I finished smoothing the blends and put blue and green tints into the shadows, though that's pretty subtle and doesn't really show in the pictures.

Takhi: Smoothing Skin
Got back to work on Takhi today, still working on smoothing out the shading on his skin. It's slow going, which is one of the reasons it's better to get it right (or at least closer than I did here) the first time. I'm hoping that once I finish his skin and get going on the fur, he'll go quickly. But it's probably going to be a couple more sessions to get that far, because after I finish the shading I still need to do highlights and details like his eyes, teeth, claws, etc.

Trista: Armor
I've finished my commission pieces for now. Should have gone back to Takhi, but didn't feel up to super high quality work today. So, remember Trista? Worked on her armor.
That's the metallic base coat and shading. Now it just needs a bit of highlight. The rest of the metal areas will be gold.

2!
Been working on commission stuff mostly. I'm hoping to wrap that up this week and get back to Tahki full time.
However, I did do this:
That's Jaheda completed on her base, ready to go to Adepticon. I'd meant to show the intermediate steps, but it all kinda happened at once. Not the fanciest base ever, but it'll do.
The weird texture on her right is meant to be a tank track. It's not as sharp as I'd like, but again, it'll do. Here's how I did it.
That's my favorite sandy paste, with a couple chunks of cork in it for the rocks. Then, on the side I put a tank tread from a GW Imperial Guard tank. I covered it with some Vaseline so it would come free after the paste dried. That worked pretty well. I think the reason the pattern came out a bit muddled was because I had too much Vaseline on the tread.
