I still have a lot of rework to do on this shading. It needs a lot of smoothing and cleanup. What I did was bring in the blue in the deepest shadows, just to see if I was going to like the effect. I'm quite happy with it.

Takhi: Shading Skin
Started shading Taki's skin. There's a very long way to go yet - it needs a lot of smoothing, some of the shading needs to be more opaque, and I'm going to put some blues and greens in the shadows.

Takhi's Base
I was working on some commissions today, so nothing I can post pictures of. But I was able to take advantage of a brief spell of unseasonable warmness to spray-prime the bark I'll be using for Takhi's base.
Per instructions from Michael Proctor, I gave it a heavy coat of black primer followed by a lighter coat of white from just the top, so that the shading would remain.

Takhi: Flesh
Started base coating my next project. This is Takhi, from Reaper Miniatures. If I get him done in time, he'll also go to Adepticon.
His fur is going to be a reddish brown. I thought about using a khaki/yellow kind of color for his skin, but I think I'll be happy with this.
He's going to go in a woodland type base, so I'm going to experiment with putting green into all the shadows. I haven't decided if I'm going to shade the skin going to my usual purple (plus the green), or maybe experiment with blue in the shadows.

Jaheda: Done!
Well, except her base. But the figure is painted and sealed. She's sitting in a cabinet until the base is ready to go.
I don't think she's my favorite piece ever, but I won't feel bad about putting her in competition.
Next project is this guy, also for Adepticon if I get him finished in time. Yup, he's still missing an arm.
This is what his base will be:
It will get painted and put on a solid base.

Jaheda: Almost!
Cleaned up the metal a bit, and highlighted the straps. Finished the other bits - her gun, her goggles, and so on. She's almost done. I glued one of her arms on, and I think I'm happy with the highlight and shadow placement - I often get it wrong on pieces of the figure I have to paint separately. I could have put her other arm on, but decided I wanted to give that glue a good long time to cure before messing with the other part. So, tomorrow I'll put the other arm on, do any final clean up and adjustments, and then put on the sealer.
Unless something goes wrong there, I should actually have her finished this weekend. After that, it'll be working on the base. That'll be a few days - the plinth isn't made yet, and once it's put together I have to put poly on it before I can start building her basing.
And I might switch the yellow bits on the binoculars to the same purple as her goggles. In fact, I think I will.

Jaheda: Leather and Straps
I didn't have a lot of time for painting today, but I did go back and finesse her hat and the spot on her left breast the way I wanted. I also put a base coat on her belt and the straps for her armor.
I still need to smooth the armor, and then it'll be highlighting the straps and such. No shadows - they're black already. I'm hoping to get her finished this weekend, but those last fiddly bits often take longer than I expect.
Oh, I also spotted the border on the inside of her cloak that I'd missed painting gold before.

Jaheda: Armor Highlight
I still forgot to fix her hat. There's a spot on her left breast I need to fix, too. It's bugging me in every picture.
But I did highlight her armor. I need to go back and finesse it, but I'm quite happy with the overall look.

Jaheda: Shading Armor
I put deeper shadows on her armor. It'll be nice to see how it looks once I get the highlights on there - that's what really makes it look right. I'll have a fair bit of clean up to do as well, bit I'm going to wait until the highlights go on to tweak it.
Forgot I meant to go back and mess with her hat a bit more. I'll try to remember to do that next time.

Jaheda: Armor
I worked on smoothing the browns today. Based on the pictures, I think I still need to work on her hat a bit. I want the highlight, the not-brightest-highlight, to be a bit broader. I also started the first layer of shadow on her armor. The difference is subtle, but it's there. Clearly that will need to go darker and also be smoothed more.

Jaheda: More Leather, Armor
I put a brighter round of highlights on the brown leather. It's better but I still need to go back and smooth and refine it some, and also line a few spots that I missed. However, the messy unpainted bits of her armor were distracting me, so I decided to base coat those and go back and refine the brown areas after.
I'm starting to feel like I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel on this one, though I have a ways to go yet.

Jaheda: Leather Highlights
Started highlighting the brown. It's a good start, but they need to go up lighter, and I've got some smoothing to do.
Also tried some different angles because I wanted to show the top of her helmet. I'll probably go back to the normal views next time; I am not thrilled with these.
