Rayko: Left Sleeve

I got highlights and the base metal on his left sleeve. I think I'm going to do the shade and highlight on the metal on the sleeve and the harness panels next.

I think those little panels on the sleeve that I'm making metal probably should be more cloth or leather. Don't care, I think with this guy bringing in more silver is the way to go.

Rayko: Panel Highlights

Got highlights and the base metal on the leather panels on his harness. Had to really fight with those lighter purples. They do not want to blend nicely. I might have to go back and futz with it a little more in some spots.

Rayko: Sleeve Shading

I finished the base coat om his left sleeve, and then shaded all the purple bits.

Rayko: Bigger Leather Bits

I'd been waffling on what color to use for those leather panel things on his harness - purple like the gloves, or black like the straps? I went purple, and I like it. Need to finish the base coat on the left glove next, then shade and highlight.

Rayko: Straps & Rings

Highlights on the leather straps, the front of the guitar strap, and the metal rings.

Rayko: Torso

Highlights on his torso/stomach, and the last of the straps. Next I'll do highlights on the straps and rings, I think.

Rayko: Shoulder, chest

Finished his shoulder, did the upper chest. Just one section left on his skin and then I'll move on to the rest of the leather harness and then the gloves.

Rayko: Ribs, Shoulder

Worked on the right side of his ribs and his left shoulder. Did not manage to finish the shoulder; it needs more work. Chugging along.

Rayko: Lower Back

I worked on his lower back tonight, tweaking the shadows and adding a highlight. Why so little highlight? Well, the second photo shows it. He's leaning back, so his lower back is in shadow...or at least not getting a highlight.

Rayko: Right shoulder

Cleaning up the shading and doing the highlights on the right shoulder. Also base coated the strap in that area. I might move to his lower back next; not sure.

Rayko: Face, Collar, Hands

So, I did some cleanup on the face, then highlights on his collar and his hands. I think I need to tweak the collar a bit more, but once I'm done with that I'll start finishing the skin on the rest of his body. It's going slow, but it's going, and so far I'm pretty happy with it.

Rayko: Jaw, Spikes

Today was shading and highlighting on the jaw parts and the spikes. I'm pretty happy with the results. I need to do some cleanup and final details on his head, particularly around the mouth, and then that part will be done.

Rayko: Head Metal Bits

Still working on finishing all the parts of Rayko's head. I got some highlights on the leather straps; might need to tweak those further. I also got a base coat on the metal and the collar.

Rayko: Face Highlight & Details

Did a last round of highlights and details on his face. I'm going to continue focusing on his head for a while.

Rayko (Rocker): Head/Face

I focused on his face and head tonight. Did some smoothing and cleanup on the shadows, and added a first round of highlights. I also started on details - lips, eyes, eyebrows. He's not quite there yet but once I get more of the details in he'll start looking like a person.

Rocker: Last Shadow

I put in a final, purple shadow. It doesn't show well in the pictures, but it's there. I like the color shift. Now I need to go back and do cleanup and smoothing.

The skin on this guy is taking a long time, but when I'm done I'll be like 60% done with the figure, so there's that.

Rocker: 3rd shadow

I realized as I was finishing up this 3rd round of shadow that I forgot about his hands again. So, I need to go back and shade the hands. I think I am going to put some purple in the shadows, too. Then I need to go back and smooth everything and bring back some of the middle shadows.

Rocker: 2nd Shadow

I got a second shadow in on this guy today. He needs a name. But other than that, so far so good. I'm going to do another round of shadow and then decide if it needs to go darker still. Then will be smoothing everything.

Rocker: More Shading

I didn't get much done tonight, just finished blocking in the first round of shadows on his skin.

Rocker: Skin & Shading

I got the last couple base coats on his skin and started roughing in shading, though I didn't manage to get all the shadows in. Maybe about 3/4 of the way around. I think when I actually sit down and work on him, he'll go pretty quickly.

12!

At long last...the arena is done. Here it is, with some Arena Rex figures for scale.

Rocker: Skin

Got a base coat on his skin. I might need to do another layer, at least in a couple places.

Rocker: Plinth. Aquila: Skin

I realized I needed to paint at least part of the plinth for the rocker before attaching him to it, or I'd have trouble painting parts after. So, I did that, and then glued him on. For good or ill, he's attached now, and I can start working on him in earnest.

I had to give the glue time to set, though, so I worked on Aquilla, doing a base coat on his skin. There's a joint on his raised leg that I should have done some gap filling in, but I didn't. I'm trying to fill in with some sealer, so we'll see how that goes. That trick isn't really meant for irregularities of this size.

Rocker: Bottom Bits

I've been working on the arena the past few days, but it's hard to get decent pictures of. I'll try soon. Today I did get back to the bust a bit. I'm still working on the low parts that will be difficult to impossible to paint once it's attached to the plinth. I think I just need to do the speaker? amp? thing next, and it should be OK to glue him in place. I've also made some color choices. This guy is all about the drama...I think the gloves will be purple. Purple, red, black, and silver will be his colors.
