Micon: Starting Over

I'd repainted over the base coat of Micon's skin because I wanted to switch the shade color from red to blue. I'm getting back to him now. This is just the first shadow, which is a darker version of his base skin color. I'll start putting on the blue next time.

13!

Finished Seoni today. Definitely not my best work ever, but will be fine for her purpose.

Seoni: Bits

I shaded and highlighted Seoni's blue trim, and started on the leather pieces and the staff. Another session, maybe two, and that should be it for her.

Seoni: Dress

First news: the base for Shannon and Dena was a fail. Couldn't get the edge of the rock layer to stay down. So, I'll have to get a new platform, and then try again. I think I'll either paint the stone directly on the platform or else use plasticard instead of green stuff, which won't curl and shouldn't have the glue problem as I won't have to be as concerned about getting glue all along the back.

I got in more time with Seoni today. Worked on her dress and other bits of clothing.

Didn't do a wonderful job shading that red, but I do like the colors.

Seoni: Skin, Hair

I continues working on Seoni today, finishing off her skin, face, and hair. The braid isn't very good at all, but the rest is OK for its purpose. She's coming along nicely. I'm eager to see how she looks with the red dress.

And this is the base for Shannon and Dena. I've since finished painting it and have glued it to the platform. It's under some books right now while the glue cures, trying to deal with the curl. This may end up being a failed experiment.

Seoni: Starting

I started on the base for Shannon and Dena's diorama by making the flooring from Green Stuff. It's curing, so I'll have pictures of that next time.

I've decided to work on something fast and simple while doing the steps to finish off the diorama, so this is Seoni. She's in Bones, and I'll be painting her to table top gaming quality as she's for the Pathfinder board game.

I've base coated and put a first level of shading on her skin.

Shannon: Done

So here's Shannon on her throne, with the gems finished and the back attached.

Next, I'll move on to building the base and starting to put everything together. That's going to be a multi day process because I need to make a floor out of Green Stuff, then give it a day to cure before I can paint it, then after it's painted glue it down and give it another day to set before putting the figures on. So, it'll take me through the end of the weekend easy to finish the piece, but a lot of that will be waiting.

Shannon: Even More Throne

Finished the gold inlay and put down the base color for the gems.

I need to finish the gems and maybe clean up some of the edges between the gold inlay, and that should do it. Then it's just putting the two pieces for Shannon together, and then building the diorama.

Shannon: More Throne

Here's the back of Shannon's throne. The stone is done, and I've started on the gold inlays. The white bits will be gems.

Shannon: Throne

I decided to go with a granite look for Shannon's throne. That means a whole lot of stippling. It takes a while, and is going to ruin the brush I'm using. I picked a couple colors darker than the base and a couple lighter. Then, I stippled on each color, leaving some of the base showing through. That was a little too much, so I glazed over with the base color to knock the texture back down a little. Last was shading and highlighting, including the edges of the stone and the cracks that were sculpted in.

I have a ways to go on it yet. This part of the throne is almost done; I still have a couple areas to texture and that should do it. But the whole back of the thing needs to be textured, and then I have to do the inlays and decorations.

Shannon: Touch-up, Staff, Throne

I started with doing some touch up on her. Added more hot spots to the gold, fixed a few places where I slopped paint where it wasn't supposed to go, and did some smoothing out. Then I put some highlight on the staff. I hate painting staves that are upright like that. Never know where to put the highlights. Last, I started the base coat on her throne. I'm going to make it granite, so next will be lots and lots of stippling.

Shannon: More Jewelry and Staff

Finished the highlights on the gold and started the pole part of her staff. I have to put some highlights on the staff, then it's just clean up on her, and moving on to the throne.Looks like some of the white highlights on the gold aren't showing as well as I'd like, so I may need to refresh and strengthen those.

Shannon: Jewelry, Staff

Started her jewelry, which took forever because it's all tiny and fiddly. I have all the highlight work to go yet.

Shannon: Hair, Dress

Added contrast to Shannon's hair and finished her dress. I need to go back and do a fair bit of touch-up on her skin, so I'm glad I waited to do the last of that until after her dress. A lot of little bits that were tricky to get into. I finish her up by doing the jewelry, and then go back to the touch up.

Shannon: Skin, Face, Hair

Had a busy week so I didn't get much painting in. I some work on Shannon's skin, face, and started her hair.

I need to do a little cleanup and smoothing on her skin, but not a ton. I also put polish on her toe and finger nails. I'm not super thrilled with her face, but it'll do.

She's going to have a white dress and lots of gold jewelry.
