Wizard: Robe Border

I didn't have a lot of time today, but I did get the rest of the border on his robes base coated. Still happy with the color.

Wizard: Robes

Shaded and highlighted his robes. The red bit on the hem is a color test - I was debating between the red and yellow, was leaning toward red but was concerned how it would play with the purple I used to shade the blue robe. So, I tried the red on a small section. I'm happy with it, so that's what I'll be using. I also filled in that pouch on his side, there. Still need to shade and highlight that.

Wizard: Eyes, Hair, Robes

The eyes on this guy are really tricky. They're recessed in under his hood and there aren't really eyeballs in there, just sockets, so you have to fill in the shape on your own. So, they're far from my best eyes ever, but they're done. I'm much happier with his hair. The robe just has a base coat. He has a smock thing kinda down between his hands; I might switch to do that next because it's going to be hard to get to and Imay mess up other stuff in the process.

Wizard: Skin

Shaded and highlighted the skin on this guy. I'm not thrilled with some parts of it and was going to mess with it some more, but then I remembered: Speed paint. Move along.

Next will be his eyes and hair.

I'm still working on cleaning up Freya, and it is coming along. Pictures next time, maybe.

Bases and a wizard

Yes, it's been a while. I've been working on some stuff I can't post pictures of. However, I've wrapped that up and am on to some other projects.

I'm still working on cleaning up Freya. No pictures, but it's still in progress. Soon I'll be on to paint.

I am a sucker for preformed bases. So, when CoolMiniOrNot did a Kickstarter with bases, I went in on it. They showed up yesterday. Unlike the other pre-made bases I've got, these are two parts - an insert, and the surrounding rim:

So, you can paint the insert separately and when it's done, glue it in to the other bit.

So, I painted one up. I'll put a figure on it later. I'm pretty happy with it. There was some mold lines that had to be cut off, which left some not as nicely sculpted bits. I don't think I'd use them for competition pieces, at least not without a lot more practice in cleaning them up and making it look nice, but for gaming or such they're great.

Also, while my husband was away over the 4th he found some figures I'd painted years ago for some friends to use in gaming. They're awful. Truly horrible. So, I'm going to take some of my Bones and paint them up as replacements. I've started the first.

These are going to be gaming quality, so should go pretty quick.

10!

Finished her wings and base today. Here she is, all put together.

I'm still not sure if the sheer cloth carries or not. I think I'll have to wait for some in-person feedback on that. I kind of want to go over those areas with a very thin glaze of the cloth color.

In any case, here's a preview of my next project.

This is Freya, from Nocturne models. She's a 54mm resin piece. Clean up and prep is going to take a while, because she's got so many pieces and they are bigger than I'm used to.

Faerie: Dress, Hair

Finished the dress, smoothing out the shading and adding highlights. Also did the details of her sandals and the clasp of her dress. Then, her hair. Putting color on her hair made a surprising amount of difference.

Last will be her wings and the base. Still hoping to finish her up this weekend.

Faerie: Skin, Dress

Finished her skin by deepening some of the shadows and putting in the highlights. Also lined around her sandals and put the details in her face. Then I moved on to her dress and started working on shading it. I need to finish that and smooth it out. Once I've put the highlights on the dress, all the sheer parts will be done and we can see if the effect works or not. So far...I'm not sure.

After that, I'm thinking I might do the fiddly bits, which is to say the sandals and the clasp on her dress, before moving on to her hair.

Faerie: More Shading Skin

I focused mostly on the skin-under-cloth areas today, smoothing out the shading there and putting on some highlights. I'm concerned that it's a bit flat. I also put back some of the cloth color on the high points of the folds. Then, I put some deeper shadows and lining on her bare skin areas. Oh, and I painted on nipples, though I kept them a bit subtle.

Forgot to do the lining around her shoes. I'll have to come back to that next time. I need to go a little darker on the shadows on her skin, too.
